"It smells better at night. But I guess you'd wanna see it too..." This was one of those times he wished he was human. But when he caught himself thinking such silly thought, he shook it off.

"It's very pretty, don't you think? Especially since the moon is out." Simone admitted.

"It really is." Yeah, who needed the sun, when you had the moon. He ignored all the faults in that thought. He put an arm around Simone's shoulders, and put up his leg on his knee, and felt real manly as he did so.

It was at this point Simone decided that Balthazar truly was the master of mixed signals. It was really quite confusing. "Balthazar, may I ask you something?"

Balthazar retracted the arm again as she got what he assumed was, all serious. "Sure. Ask away."

"What were you trying to accomplish by giving me your number?" Because she was really getting confused as to what his purpose here was, so it seemed simpler to plain ask straight out than play games.

Balthazar wrinkled his forehead. "It seemed polite." He heard how wrong that sounded, and added: "And I enjoy spending time with you." If Simone wished for Balthazar to be straightforward, she asked for a lot. Since he didn't really know why himself. He was about to ask her the same question, but thought that might sound a bit childish.

"I don't mean to put you in the hot spot, but you seem a bit ambivalent yourself, and it's really getting me quite confused." Simone gave him a friendly smile. "Suppose I can live with it, but you can't blame me for trying to get a straight answer out of you."

Balthazar smiled back, and shrugged. "Yeah, I'm sorry, I don't know what to tell you, that's who I am." Which was quite untrue, since he could be straightforward, if he really knew what he wanted. "I'm sorry, I'll try to be straight with you from now on." He wrinkled his forehead again. "So how about you?" He just assumed she would know what he meant.

"I suppose I will plain have to learn to live with it. Or learn to read your thoughts." She made the poor joke with a tone that meant to say that it would be fine. "Think I'm more likely to have luck with the first option though. What about me?"

He regretted that he had asked, and just shook his head. "Ah, nothing." He began to get restless, and but his hands on his knees like he was about to get up. "Do you wanna go somewhere else or you wanna enjoy the roses some more?"

"Well, we could always walk up to the roses so that can feel that scent you've been talking about." She said as she stood up to do so. "I imagine you might just have a better nose than me."

He nodded and got up as Simone did so. "Yes, I have quite a good nose." He gave Simone a big smile, and went over to the nearest rosebush. "Here, the pink ones are lovely."

"Do you keep track of what roses smells nicely?" Simone seemed quite amused by the thought as she bent down to smell it. "Seems like you do, they were indeed lovely." She repeated his claim just because it was funny really.

He laughed "No, not really. I just know." He tapped his nose with a finger. "Good smell, remember? I can smell that these are one of the best, even here."
